The kids and I unexpectedly enjoyed an impromptu visit with Geoff & Dave yesterday afternoon while they waited for their delayed flight back to LA. It was SUCH a treat to get to hang out for a couple of hours and for the kiddies to see their real uncle G and their newfound crazy fake uncle D. The airport has a really nice observation gallery for exploring and a Starbucks located down the hall. You better believe that THE GALLERY + TWO-PUMP CHAI = HAPPY KIDS! :-)
Back before this week got super busy, Miss C and I had some downtime at home. She loves the dot art:
And accessorizing, of course:
HAPPY FRIDAY TO ALL!

The Big Debut!
We found out just a couple of weeks ago that Geoff and his writing partner, Dave, were coming to the area last night for an advance screening of the movie they co-wrote and co-directed. As most of you know, it worked out totally by happenstance (and state tax credits) that they filmed the movie here back in May/June 2012. I remember talking casting news with Geoff about the film several years before THAT so to say this project has been long in coming is an understatement.
Our big hurdle upon learning the news was finding a babysitter. My stress on that topic is from a logistical standpoint, not at all a "my kids are so precious" one (although obviously they are!) and could sponsor several other posts; suffice it to say that I was thrilled to figure out that the young, single elementary-school-teacher sister of my new neighbor would be available. (Now, elementary-school-teacher babysitters are not cheap so we may never leave the house again but she did what appears to be a fab job that even involved loading the dishwasher!!)
My next stress was traffic and timing to arrive at the screening last evening since it was about an hour away but that all went smoothly, too. The BG and I got there about 40 minutes early and were able to hang out with Geoff & Dave for awhile. I hadn't seen Geoff since last summer and the BG hadn't seen him since he was here filming the movie! Apparently I was so excited to be oot and aboot and seeing my brother that all the veins popped out in my neck. But he looks good so I'll take this one for the team:
The screening was in a theater at a local university and was invitation-only for people who had worked on the film plus other relevant peeps, like an economist from another local university who apparently had written a paper on the economic value to the state of having this film produced here. The movie is just about exactly 90 minutes (with no previews so it'll be a longer showing in a theater) and the guys did a Q&A after:
Geoff's best friend since middle school drove in for the screening with his wife so it was fun to see him. Jeff D has a pretty prominent placement in a bike-racing scene so be sure to watch for him in that!
Sibs:
So the REALLY big deal about this evening was that it was to be the big unveiling of a secret I've kept from the BG for almost 2 years: that his wife and kids all show up on the big screen.
He knew about the kids. Originally, Geoff had made it possible for the kids and me to film a cameo but the filming date conflicted with our closing on this house. They were able to shift it to another day but, at least as Geoff told me, they'd had to hire other adult extras so while the kids could be in it, they would be with a "fake mom." I was, of course, super bummed to miss my chance to BE FAMOUS but whaddyagonnado?
The morning we drove over to the film set (conveniently a good half-hour farther from the house we had just moved into over the weekend as compared to our previous abode!), I had a wishful thinking inkling that maybe it would work out for me to hop in somewhere so I went ahead and dressed in the general arena of the movie's color palette. Yes, in case you're wondering: movies do indeed have color palettes and I was instructed by the costume designer to bring along any possible outfit options for the kids that were spring-y and muted blue/green.
Once on set, we were taken to the trailer where the costume designer came in and let me know that I WAS going to be able to go with them! Hooray! This was the point where I decided that I would let the BG think that the other person played their mother and get to surprise him one day in a theater.
My top, skirt, and necklace were well-suited for the color scheme (tip o' the hat to my forward thinking!); she just added a gray cardigan and some heels. Pretty sure this will be the only time this brand makes an appearance anywhere on my body:
The couch in the trailer with all sorts of clothing options for the kids, both things I had brought (which mostly got a thumbs-down) and new stuff she'd bought in NYC over the weekend:
B got a new shirt and pants, which the costume designer generously let us keep. Here he is, being suave in the entrance to the trailer...two years ago:
A funny side note about trailers: after we did our thing and came back to change, I opened the door to what I thought was the trailer where we'd left our stuff.....and came upon a very surprised Sam Rockwell! Oops! That was my only celebrity-sighting!
I honestly can't remember if this pic was taken before or after our turn to film inside the "pharmacy" but it was apparently the best we could get back then:
In the van on the way back to the trailer from the set:
Okay, so back to last night:
I knew from Geoff that our appearance made the final cut but I never asked him when the scene took place in the movie. Since I knew the general structure, however, I recognized just a couple of minutes into the film that the scene was coming up. And sure enough, there we were! Confession: my eyes went immediately to myself because, let's face it, I need to know what a giant lit-up version of me looks like. It's a very brief appearance so, by the time my eyes went to Miss C, she had her back to the camera and I kind of only saw B off doing his thing as the clip passed.
I looked over at the BG-- I mean, this is quite literally a secret YEARS in the making-- and he's grinning really big.
Then, after the film ended, I said something like, "can you believe I kept it a secret that I was in it?" and he suddenly looked really confused. "Wait-- that was YOU?"
Seriously. The guy NEVER EVEN LOOKED at the adult in the frame-- only the kids. So he completely missed seeing his wife on the big screen. As Brooks would say, "That is not what I was expecting."
So much for the power of a revealed secret.
PS: The movie will be released on 75 screens on March 14th as well as On Demand, digital download, etc. It was unbelievably cool to see a film play out and realize that it came from the brains of people we know!! We are SO excited for Geoff and Dave!!! Fair warning, however: it is rated R. I think everybody in the world should go see it....except maybe people who are offended by things that lead to movies being rated R. ;-)

In Case You're Wondering...
...THIS is what a $10 birthday coupon for World Market looks like:
Okay, the fab new mug and soap added up to $11 so I was out a buck. I'm super excited about both of them (and the fun teal folding chair(s) I bought a month ago!). I actually first came across another item for exactly $9.99 and was about to get it but then realized I could find it at Amazon where several of you generously gave me birthday gift credit and then still score the above treasures, too.
That item? This pancake pen. Here's to having more luck with interesting pancake shapes!!

Gold Rush
The idea for B's valentines came from packages of chocolate gold coins in the Target Dollar Spot. Since he has to take 27 (!!!) of whatever it would be, I wanted to do something on the cheap. Seven coins for a buck? DONE.
Now, if I'd had a more robust supply of red cardstock, I would've probably gone a different direction with the font size and spacing on these but, alas, getting 27 out of the paper I had was the rule of the day. I also didn't really consider B's lack of understanding of "write your name in a way that fills the white space on the left"-- oops! In any case, he did lots of the glueing and taping and obviously wrote his name. I'd like to say it was obviously he who did the horribly-uneven cutting but nope, that was his mother. Never been able to cut a straight line in my life. Think I'll use some birthday money for a paper cutter!
Speaking of all things golden, check out that tutu!! This lovely lady celebrates a birthday today and her style just never diminishes!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SHEILSIE!!!
PS: And Happy Friday to all!

A Very Weggies Wednesday
Anne and I arranged to meet up "in the middle" of our two homesteads so I could bequeath her a big box o' baby goodies for Miss Ellie...and catch up, of course! Once she suggested a town that appeared to be a good meeting spot, I
realized immediately that I knew the perfect place for us to connect:
the Wegmans that recently opened there!! I got the better end of the deal since, even with yucky rain and driving through a big city, it took me exactly an hour; her drive, unfortunately, was a little longer and a little more traffic-filled.
Since Miss C and I got there first (around 10 AM), we decided it was high time for a sweet break. This sign did its job of luring me in:
And she went (shocker!) for a sprinkle donut:
Next up was a wander around the housewares/toys department where OBVIOUSLY she needed this very-on-sale pig wastebasket for her room:
At the other end of the price spectrum: the $1000 truffles:
The blue-striped ladies were such a fab sight to behold when they arrived:
We all decided at that point that we were ready for lunch so we hung out in the cafe for about an hour and the girls both did great! After our feast, we took to the aisles again:
Don't worry-- we brought home a sprinkle donut for the boy, too:
And some fun winter cookies, too!!

After we exhausted our "treats from Wegs" shopping list, we loaded up their car and the G girls headed home. The K girls popped back in one last time to prepare for our ride and I wasn't at all tempted by this bevvie but it was so appropriately named for my shopping partner, I couldn't resist snapping a shot. (AKHG and I have a long history of using words like svelte, puce, mausoleum, etc.....yeah, I know, we're tres bizarre!):

A Well-Rounded Girl
Miss C's personal growth is really benefiting from living on this street. We have neighbors whose kids are just enough older that we get to be the recipients of some "I must get this stuff out of my house!" clean-out. What 3-year old wouldn't love a wooden doll cradle and high chair? (And what bargain-loving mom doesn't appreciate free stuff?!):
Those same neighbors want to be sure she's not just exposed to warm and fuzzy things, however. What could be a better counterbalance than.....HOCKEY?
The kids and I went to a local ice arena yesterday to catch the first period of a playoff game between two high school teams, on one of which a neighbor offspring plays. C watched very intently:
While we don't live in a development with tons of built-in potential-friends, we feel very fortunate to be dwelling amongst some truly kind people. Last Friday, I watched out the window as the BG helped dig out a stuck car and push down mightily to get its wheels spinning.....and then, yesterday morning, I watched as a different neighbor did the same for him when he got stuck at the bottom of the very icy driveway. Circle of neighborly love indeed!

It Paid Off!
Writing corny blog post titles for 6 years, that is!!
I haven't signed into Pinterest in months. I do believe it's a wonderful resource but it's just not part of my regular routine. A few weeks ago, I realized I needed to get myself into gear re: valentines since I now had not one but two kids who would be taking them to school. I spent some time one morning wandering around Target (I know-- SO out of the ordinary! ha!) searching for items I could make into little pun-ny projects....just like I do when naming blog posts!
For all I know, Pinterest boasts 87 of these same ideas (and much better executed, I'm sure!), but darn it-- I came up with it myself! :-)
Miss C's party was rescheduled for this morning, which has now gotten pushed back a couple of hours since we have a 2-hour delay today:
We haven't made the B-man's yet since his party got pushed back an entire week until Friday, but fingers crossed they turn out fine, too! The tops came from the party section but B's started in the Dollar Bin!

Weekend Update
The pics above were actually taken not this past weekend but the weekend before, when I took B to his first school-classmate birthday party (at an indoor pool in the middle of winter, no less) and snow started to fall as we were leaving. That was just a a warm-up for the 19+ inches that would fall Thursday, of course!
We haven't done much over the course of this 3- (er, 5-) day weekend. My parents were able to get home safely on Friday evening and we've basically just hung around since then. The BG woke up in the middle of the night Saturday (early Sun morning) feeling very sick. He spent yesterday lying down on one couch or another for the entire day. He is feeling much better today (yay!) but lemme tell you-- I've known this guy for 15 years and he has NEVER gotten sick in that period of time. It was bizarre to be "tending" to him in a "do you need another blanket and/or a bland snack?" kind of way-- it's just never happened. He is very fortunate that this happened in the middle of a long weekend because his whole world might have come crashing down if he'd actually had to take a sick day since that hasn't happened in 15 years of a professional career, either!!
We're supposed to get some sort of wintry mix precip overnight tonight which kinda makes me think this 5-day weekend is going to turn into a 5.5-day one. These kids might never get their school Valentines parties!!
In the meantime, however, I'm enjoying binge-watching House of Cards Season Two on Netflix!! ;-)

Wait, It's Only Friday?
It feels like it should at LEAST be Saturday if not Sunday!! This week has been crazy!
After we got the 14 inches by yesterday morning, the temps warmed up and there was some occasional sleet and/or light rain during the day. Since it was so much warmer than previous snow days this year, the kids had SO much fun playing outside and actually stayed out there for quite awhile. The BG did most of the shoveling (we've never measured but estimate our driveway is 50-ish yards long!) but I did my part for awhile, too. I made sure to bend at the knees and alternate directions so my abs wouldn't be wonky! ;-)
Then around 5 pm, it started snowing again and we got 5 more inches!! While the snowfall didn't reach the magnitude of the 2009/2010 Snowmaggedons (see here and here), it was decidedly the largest snowfall since then which means it was the most white stuff Miss C has ever seen!
I didn't really take many snow pics because, you know, white and cold. It's supposed to warm up during the day so we expect that Grammie and Opa will be able to fly out as (re)scheduled later this afternoon. It sure has been fun having them around, though...
Opa had all kinds of treats stored away in his "magic vest":
And Grammie was quite the fancy lady reader in a floppy red hat:
HAPPY FRIDAY!
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LOYAL READER PAULA!!

Whiteout
Just took this pic out our back door:
We're supposed to get precip for the next 12+ hours, although it might turn into some sleet/freezing rain. Then it's supposed to turn back into even possibly HEAVY snow from 6-10 pm tonight. We're thinking no school tomorrow, either and Mon is a holiday. Five day weekend, anyone? (And I'm not gonna lie-- I'm kinda happy I have more time to put together valentines for school parties!)
Grammie and Opa decided on Tuesday to rebook their return flight once Southwest offered the flexible weather policy. We knew the snow wouldn't be here yet when they were supposed to leave yesterday at 5 pm but they were connecting through Birmingham and it was hard to know whether it might be part of the southern ice mess. It's very difficult to make an advance decision based on fickle weather, but it does look like the leg from B'ham to Dallas did end up getting cancelled last night. We're sure happy they're getting to hang out in this winter wonderland rather than getting stranded at the B'ham airport!
Also, I heard something about Opa making french toast this morning.....

Celebrating The Day
As many of you might have seen on Facebook, I took Grammie to afternoon tea yesterday at a nearby historic mansion. The sun was in exactly the wrong place to snap a quick pic so this one isn't the best:
This picture answers a question loyal reader Karen asked-- and yes, it was all yummy! (And the three desserts listed last came in a second course):
The February birthday girls:
For dinner, Opa and Grammie took us out for a yummy meal and we all managed to smile pretty decently:
And then there was cake. We picked up the scrumptious coconut cake at Weggies and I made the totally-fudgy flourless chocolate cake myself:
Thanks for all the birthday wishes!!

The Goings-On
The treasures from Texas keep coming-- behold the hot wheels track:
The girls went toodling around yesterday. It was very cold but also very bright so Miss C had to get properly attired:
A smile-and-a-half (distracted by cookie) at lunch:
Showing the B-man some of our dollar store purchases when he got home from school:
Today is the day I send out HUGE BIRTHDAY HUGS to Carrie which means it's also the day I add another page (12 pages?) to my own life calendar. I'm not sure how it is that the BG is 2.5 years older than I am but still seems so strapping and young (okay, youngish) and I often feel like a big frump. ;-) One of my dearest local loyal readers pointed out, upon hearing that my mom was referring to this birthday as a "milestone," that it is indeed "halfway to 40." But really....it's halfway to SEVENTY!!!!
Onward and upward, right?!

Treasures from Texas
Grammie and Opa arrived Saturday afternoon for a brief visit that still somehow included multiple suitcases. What was in them, you ask?
Well-- check out Miss C's babies/animals decked out in all manner of my own infant clothes. (Yes, we're 2-3 years late in retrieving these from their attic but hey, at least C's "friends" can wear them if not she herself!):
When C got out of the bath last night and ran into the living room, she had QUITE the shock! (Wish we'd thought to have a recorder ready for her reaction.) Sometime back when I had posted a pic on here of her in her zebra jammies, Grammie opined that she wish she had some. I put my internet shopping skills to use and tracked down exactly 2 adult footed zebra pajamas available on clearance at their local Target store. She arrived bright and early to snatch them up-- never mind they are sized for giants!!
Good times! :-)

Back To It
And....he did! After "calling Ralph"* a dozen times on Wednesday, the B-man was pretty much back to normal by yesterday morning. Due to the excessive and long-lasting vomiting, however, I figured it would be best for everybody if I kept him home from school yesterday.
*Back in the day, the Moore kids (together with their very proper father) developed quite the list of synonyms for throwing up. Calling Ralph has always been one of my faves....and I actually just learned from a google search that "Calling Ralph on the Porcelain Phone" is a variation and I just might like that one even better!
While his sickness got him a one-day postponement of his weekly homework packet, he had to return to it last night. Here, he counts out 100 marshmallows for their upcoming celebration of the 100th day of school (which has now been pushed back 5 times with our 5 snow days!):
Not to be outdone, his sister put on a fairy costume and went fishing:
HAPPY FRIDAY!
